Hi! My name is Bernardino, Berni for short.

I am originally from Italy and, since 2020, I have been living in London with my wife. This is us admiring the beautiful view from the Sky Garden.

In the past, I lived Princeton, NJ, as well as Cambridge, UK, and Dublin, Ireland.

Career

Until 2022, I was the CTO of FarmHedge, a company that provides software for medium and large agribusinesses and helps them trade and communicate with farmers digitally.

We exited this business by selling it to an early investor and customer.

Running a business has been an amazing experience, that allowed me to learn and understand holistic parts of the business, helped me grow technically, understand management and coaching duties, and also experience first-hand seed fundraising.

Prior to FarmHedge, I worked at Groupon and MathWorks. Further details are available on my Linkedin profile. As a side project in 2020, I’ve also built Teraprod, an app for industrial production management used in several production plants in Italy. Check out my Project page for more details.

I have a PhD in computer science and published several papers in my early career and during my Master’s degree. Get a look at my Publications page for more details.

Interests

I am a fan of Formula 1. I (almost religiously) follow the sport on TV, and I have also attended the last British Grand Prix in July 2021.

As a hobby, I also play the F1 videogame on PlayStation, an interest that helped me go through the pandemic quite smoothly.

I like travelling, seeing new places and cultures. My wife and I often visit European cities, to seek a warmer weather escape or explore peaks and landscapes. In the past few years, we had the chance to admire real wildlife in South Africa, experience the street food of Taipei, attend a full wedding in Bangalore, and enjoy the tropical beaches and rainforests of Malaysia.

Other than travelling, I also enjoy hiking. We hiked to the peak of Snowdon mountain and climbed 3000 meters above sea level to the top of an active volcano, Mount Etna.
